4/10/08 CHASE AND BRECKENRIDGE, TX DAMAGE

I'm going to keep this post rather short and simple. I targeted an area near Snyder, TX and left Amarillo around noon or so. A moderate risk of severe storms was in effect for most of north TX and southern OK. I made it to my target area of Snyder, TX around 3 or so and noticed storms firing up on radar near Colorado City. I tried to keep going east to get ahead of the storms and then drop south to get in better position. I went east out of Snyder on US 180 and got stopped by flooded roads SE of Lueders. At this point, the storm was tornado warned and was showing a really nice hook echo on radar. I didn't want to take a chance on the flooded roadways so I had to turn around and go back to Anson and drop south to Abilene.

I made a wrong turn in Abilene and messed my chances up of catching up to the storm. I tried to get to Cisco on 1-20 and go north, but the storm left me behind. I looked at radar and knew that a tornado had to be on the ground just south of Breckenridge. The velocity couplet was pretty amazing. I hauled north to try to get a possible glimpse of storm features, but I was on the wrong side for good viewing. As I made my way into Breckenridge, I began seeing damage. An 18 wheeler was turned over in the road just south of town and numerous houses were damaged, along with lots of power poles snapped in half. Here are some photos from the day:
