3/2/08 IS THE FIRST CHASE OF THE SEASON

The first chase of the season wasn't really a great setup, but I wanted to go out and get the "kinks" out before the real meat of the season approached. I along with my chase partner Robert Ruley looked over data and decided to target an area around Altus, OK. We got to Altus as storms were firing just north of town. We intercepted the storms, but they were pretty much junk from the get go. We farted around with mostly outflow storms just north of Altus which actually put out a lot of small hail and some pretty gusty winds.

After giving my nowcaster Jay McCoy a call, he gave us some info about more isolated storms further east. We then jogged east to Snyder, OK as a cell developed. We then slowly went north and saw a storm crossing US 183 with a fairly good lowering. We didn't get to see it very long as it quickly became rain wrapped as it headed east at a fairly rapid pace. We then continued north to Eakly, OK where we ended the chase with some photos looking west towards the linear towers on the cold front. Here are some photos from the days event:
